The Character
Character's Name: Peeves
Character's Gender: Wouldn't you like to know? (let's just assume, for the sake of our mental stability, that Peeves is male)
Character's Appearance: Peeves is no pearly-white ghost. He's quite solid enough to pull a wet raspberry and unscrew chandeliers. But he can turn invisible, all the better to sneak up on people and shriek into their ear. Whenever he feels like being seen, Peeves manifests as a little man dressed in the loudest-colored clothes, complete with a little hat with a bell.
Character's History: Peeves has been in the Hogwarts castle for as long as anyone can remember. He's even older than the ghosts, and the even the dustiest cubic portraits (back from a time when painters did not have much imagination) of past Headmasters twitch whenever he's close. Peeves is a poltergeist. He's never been alive. There are only speculations as to how Peeves came to be. A popular theory among the Hogwarts ghosts is that Peeves is actually a highly-evolved peice of mold that grew on the Castle's exterior, nearer to the lake, where it is damp and condusive to growing new species. And the intense magic charges in the area had given him what in other people would count as a personality.
Whenever pressed for an answer, Peeves bursts into an impormtu song and dance number about the other person's ancestry in a manner that would make even the suits of armor blush a bright red.
Character's Personality: Peeves enjoys creating as much chaos as he can. Using his wide arsenal of insults and poltergeist abilities, Peeves usually succeeds in delivering base, childish pranks to house elves, students, faculty (with the exception of Albus Dumbledore --but no one knows why exactly), ghosts, paintings, and even the giant squid. The closest modern-day equivalent for Peeves is an "Internet Troll" .
Peeves does not leave the castle grounds. He does not even venture to the Forbidden Forrest. But no one know if he is incapable of leaving, or if he merely does not wish to leave.
